some of life's hard lessons

You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.

The past few days brought on a few heavy reminders for me...

I cannot save the world.

Life is not fair - but it is sacred.

Some things don't have a solution.

Caring for myself is as important as caring for others.

We all have our own crosses to bear.

The questions are as important as the answers.

I can be sensitive to another persons' pain without
letting myself by swallowed by it.

(pastel on paper)

Sometimes, i just need to pull back and get a little perspective...

There is hope for me yet... ;-)

Remember this?

and this...

and this...

ta daaaaaa....
Kurt Cobain - boom. Done.

I bit of fine tuning with black and yellow,
and there you have it.
I do like it, although his right eye is too big.
Or maybe his left eye is too small... ;-)

Painting and writing always help me
find my way back to myself.

You all know what i mean, right?

Even if this painting ends up sitting on my studio floor
for 5 years...

Or my journal pages end up stacked on the shelf
for the next 20 years...

the process of having given my thoughts a voice
is what matters.

I care very little what happens to it after it's painted,
or after it's written,
because for me, the purpose was simply to paint it.

To write it.

What happens to it afterwards
is up to the moon and the stars. :-)

Happy weekend everyone.

  1. Have a wonderful weekend yourself! Wonderful painting of Kurt - I'm glad you shared it with us. xoxo

  2. Pauline,

Sometimes I think you and I are living parallel lives. I've learned the same things you've listed in the past day or two myself.

I just wish I could paint as well as you do to make myself feel better.

  3. I couldn't agree with you more! It IS up so the moon and the stars most times:) That Buddha quote is one of my favorites. Wonderful post and that painting of KurtC is amazing! great job:))
Thanks for your funny and sweet comments left for me on my blog. FranT xo

  4. I like the painting, Pauline! Yes, I'm also glad for those of us who have found a way or another to express ourselves. I used to get really sucked in by others' sufferings and misery, but somewhere the lines I've learned that it's probably more useful (to everyone) if I were to live as good and honourable a life as I possible can, then hopefully that inspires others to do the same for themselves too. :-)

  5. Really nice painting! And I know what you mean - when I finish creating, I feel like I've finished something I was supposed to do and there is such a satisfied feeling of accomplishment!

  6. Your finishing touches on Kurt are perfect!! My husband always loves your music paper people too!

  7. The first one looks kind of sad and serene at the same time. Good lessons, to be sure. Hard to learn, but good ones.

You really did a stunning job on Kurt! People's eyes aren't always the same size. ;)

The process is more important than the end result...or the journey is more important than the destination. However you want to put it, that's so true. :)

  8. Such depth & emotion with these pieces of work, Pauline!
Love how you put yourself into your work. ~xx
An incredible post, thank you for sharing. :]

  9. Hi Pauline I agree ( i think I always agree with what you write here)
have a nice week end you too!!!!!!!!!!

  10. This is so dumb, but I love your work so much I could cry!! Sage words beyond most...visuals that emote off the page.

Your first character clearly supports your words. So much expression, sadness married with disappointment and reluctant submission. Incredible...

And Curt, there are no words for how beautiful and special this piece is... I hope you hang it in a place of honour!! You are so gifted and I love the style of both musicians you've done... Just "WOW"

    So much inspiration here!

    Hugs Giggles

  11. Absolutely.. it as all about the process.... great results tho!!!!!
