when the whispers call... listen.

hi everyone.
I've missed you all.

Despite difficult days - the sun still rises.
And what a beauty it is... wouldn't you agree?

No adjustments made to the photo...
it was actually this yellow.

First of all, thank you.
From the deepest of my heart - thank you all,
for showing me
that you are there.

That you understand.

Mom comes out of the hospital today.
:-)

We never know for how long,
but none of us really know
whether we'll be here tomorrow or not, do we?

The more reason to take everything in while we can,
to taste everything
to touch everything
to see everything
to be grateful for what we have,
for who we have
for who we are...

and for sunrises and sunsets.

When i went to the mail today,
i found this in my box
and it made me smile...

A wonderful gift of speciality papers...(chinese papers?)
from the lovely Angelia
all in a beautiful hand painted envelope.

How precious is that?

I can't wait to use them in my journal
THANK YOU Angelia... xox

During the past few weeks,
I spent very little time in my studio.

My heart just wasn't in it.

And then a few days ago,
I began to feel that stirring inside...

the one that calls for me to make art,
to write,
to create something.

The one that gets more persistent
as every day passes...

The one that reminds me,
that despite what happens around me,
there is still something inside me
that that needs to be given
a voice
a color
a form...

and within 30 minutes - a new beginning...

only after i had it all on canvas did i notice
the hearts...

At least i see two hearts.

It's only the beginning and i'll keep you posted
as it progresses.

It was good to have the brushes in my hand again. :-)

Kurt is watching on the sidelines. ;-)

I'll leave you with a video from someone that i love,
Loreena McKennitt - one of my favorite Canadians. :-)

The words in this song hold a particular meaning.

Back in 1998, she tragically lost her fiancé, his brother,
and their best friend in a boating accident.

She said she would never perform or record again after this.

But I'm guessing she felt the same stirring inside,
calling her to make music,
to give her feelings a voice,
to create something...

I'm so grateful that she listened to the whispers...

Wishing you all a happy, healthy weekend.

some of life's hard lessons

You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.
Buddha

The past few days brought on a few heavy reminders for me...

That...

I cannot save the world.

Life is not fair - but it is sacred.

Some things don't have a solution.

Caring for myself is as important as caring for others.

We all have our own crosses to bear.

The questions are as important as the answers.

I can be sensitive to another persons' pain without
letting myself by swallowed by it.

(pastel on paper)

Sometimes, i just need to pull back and get a little perspective...

There is hope for me yet... ;-)

Remember this?

and this...

and this...

ta daaaaaa....
Kurt Cobain - boom. Done.

I bit of fine tuning with black and yellow,
and there you have it.
I do like it, although his right eye is too big.
Or maybe his left eye is too small... ;-)

Painting and writing always help me
find my way back to myself.

You all know what i mean, right?

Even if this painting ends up sitting on my studio floor
for 5 years...

Or my journal pages end up stacked on the shelf
for the next 20 years...

the process of having given my thoughts a voice
is what matters.

I care very little what happens to it after it's painted,
or after it's written,
because for me, the purpose was simply to paint it.

To write it.

What happens to it afterwards
is up to the moon and the stars. :-)

Happy weekend everyone.

kurt cobain

Wanting to be someone else is a waste of who you are.
- Kurt Cobain

hello out there...

Feeling a little off these days.

It was a full moon last night
so maybe the tide will turn... who knows.

Kurt Cobain on a 12" x 12" canvas.
He kinda looks like Jesus here... ;-)

I'm using 3 colours so far:
brown, beige and white.

You can get a lot of definition with very few colours...

I love this in particular because of the sharp contrasts.

Not done yet, but i wanted to at least post something
so you wouldn't think I'd deserted you all. ;-)

I think i'm gonna like this one.

I'll probably finish it tomorrow and post it soon.

Kurt Cobain was such a tortured soul...

And this, my friends, is something i painted several years ago,
and i have no friggin' idea what the hell it means anymore.

I was obviously feeling philosophical.
or maybe i was drunk? who knows...
it was long ago. ;-)

It's a pretty big canvas, (about 3 ft x 4 ft).

I hate everything about it except the blue background,
so i decided to paint over it,
and tomorrow, i'll paint something new on it!! Yay!!

It's already pretty, don't you think?
Such a lively color...

Thank you all, again, for your heartfelt comments.

To know that my words reach so many,
from so far away,
and sometimes even touch a few hearts
is what it's all about for me.

I do what i do and write what i write
because it's what i feel.
No more, no less.

So when someone responds to something i've said or painted,
I know we've connected,
and that makes my heart melt.
Honest.
It does.

Thank you.
For reading, and letting me know you're there.
