One of the secrets of a happy life
is continuous small treats.
- Iris Murdoch
A few photos of last night's painting,
although i got carried away pretty quickly
and forgot to take "in between" photos.
They basically go from the starting point...
to the end point.
:-)
At first, all those lines in the yellowy-mustard color
made me think of the gates of hell.
(stop laughing...)
Don't ask me why, since i don't believe in hell.
I do know, however, that If there was a hell,
there would be more than one entrance. :-)
I was tempted to paint over them
cause i really didn't like where it was going
but then reminded myself
to let go.
Stop controlling.
Stop judging.
Stop planning.
Just go with whatever feels right for your next move,
your next brush stroke,
your next color.
That's not always easy to do,
because although we may not have an image in our heads
of what the final painting will look like,
we usually know what we don't like
and when we SEE what we don't like in our own brush strokes,
we're tempted to erase them,
remove them,
paint them over.
When instead,
we need to allow this transformation
to take place naturally.
So I resisted the temptation
(another difficult task sometimes...)
and kept the yellow gates where they were
and eventually,
they became more organic
and turned into seeds
and pods
and then trees.
...then a word that speak to me, for whatever reason...
and there you have it.
Magic.
Just like the taste in my mouth
after i ate one of these little babies...
:-)
Are there any other chocolate lovers out there?
Don't all scream at the same time.
(giggle)
Wishing you all a wonderful day filled with
whatever your little heart desires.
xoxo
Love your "Magic". Not a Twix fan though, I prefer Lindt chocolate or a Caramilk ;).
ReplyDeleteStay inspired!
Magical!! Yes!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate in many, many forms--LOL! ;)
Have a super weekend.
Pauline, your posts never fail to cheer me up! I love how you describe your creative process, and I love the art work you create. And magic is - magical :-)
ReplyDeleteI also LOVE Twix, but I'm a low carb person, and haven't had anything but dark (at least 70%) chocolate for months. Sometimes my body feels better about it than my brain :-))
Btw, are you on Facebook? I would love to connect with you there too. There's a facebook badge on my photo blog at http://picturesbyim.blogspot.com/
If you don't like to mix facebook and blogging, no problem! :-)
Do you know what I like? (apart from chocolate, obviously) That your quote says it's by IRISH Murdoch, which just immediately made me think that the treats might have been alcoholic ones... :) I'm quite sure they weren't but it made me laugh. Anyway I liked the quote so much I've posted it on Facebook for the edification of my friends.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, i LOVE Lindt chocolate too! (if it's chocolate, i'm in)
ReplyDeleteRita: we're in this together! ;-)
Inger: thank you. Yes, i love dark chocolate too. Depends what kind of mood i'm in. And yes, i am on facebook - i'll connect with you soon... xoxo
Tara: HAHAHAHAHA!! IRISH Murdoch!! i just corrected it, thank you much, girl!! Love ya. xoxo

ReplyDeletePauline, your posts are always magic! And, an inspiration. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHello Pauline, ah your pieces, I love them. You did well to just go with the flow, it is a very magical piece, it has a wintery snowy feel. Have a great week-end and oh yes, keep on indulging in such chocolatey moments, we all need them, so good!
ReplyDeleteWay to just stick with the piece and see it through to its wonderful end Pauline. As to chocolate...did you even have to ask??? Have a lovely weekend xx
ReplyDeleteLove chocolate too! :]
ReplyDeleteSeeing the whole process of your work coming together, such a treat.
Your trees are wonderful and the colors are perfect together.
Thank you for sharing.
I love your painting, it certainly does look magical, like something from a fairytail. And chocolate, definitely! Its creme eggs for me at the moment!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post.
ReplyDeleteThe painting is so amazing!
Your painting looks wonderful. I am so happy you just went with it.. I really need to learn to do that..
ReplyDeleteBTW ~ I have a jar full of mini twix on my counter right now! :)
Happy PPF!!
Rather than the gates of hell, I saw a very beautiful and intricate root system of the trees!
ReplyDeleteLove the violet color, too!
♥♥♥
Happy PPF!!

ReplyDeleteOh, this is wonderful! Love how you describe your process . Love this,

So true, in many situations... such as tonight's chocolate selection! I'm a dark chocholate gal, but aslo love the occassional, caramilk, jersey milk or skor.
Also, bought the Soul Sister print tonight!! Can't wait to get it!!
Carrie, thank you so much for the SOUL SISTERS
ReplyDeleteI hope they make you smile when you see them. xoxo
Thank YOU for the SOUL SISTERS! And I linked to this post today on my blog when I joined the 22 Things Challenge and decided to post my current favourite chocolate as well. You inspire me Pauline, thanks!
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful, encouraging words! We just have to work through all "that stuff" and let that true magic emerge. :) It's in there! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI really like the finished product and the gates of hell thing had me snorting... mustardy yellow would be the perfect colour for them if they existed, but glad you didn't paint over them because that finished piece is great... as to chocolate... I am sitting here in a minty dark chocolate haze as I type this... I love that easter, or as I like to call it Chocster, is just around the corner and we can celebrate all things chocolate...xx
