art, good music and kind people make me happy

hi peeps.
it's time for faces! :-)

a tiny acrylic and marker on paper (12 x 12 cm)
There's a video at the end of this post.
It's what i was listening to while i painted last night...
the whole CD, not just the one song. :-)

and then there's this woman...
i love Jane Goodall, and what she's done with her life.

My first ever blog post was a little watercolor of Jane and a friend...
you can see it here.

I was a woman of few words when i first began blogging.
Now i won't shut up.
(giggle...)

I had a hard time with this one...

i seem to have made her look much older
- something i'm not so sure she would like.

but it is what it is.
Sometimes there's a likeness,
and sometimes less.
I certainly tried to give her compassionate eyes.
Whenever i see her on tv, that's always what i notice about her first.
Those peaceful, loving, compassionate eyes.

You can see a lot in a person's eyes.

I then took time to finish this one too -
just added the word and a few magical dots.

I kinda like it.

I hope you all know how much i appreciate
your kind comments.

The thing that makes me the happiest
is knowing that sometimes,
I may actually inspire someone out there
to make art
or write poetry
or take a walk outside
or listen to music
or bake a cake
or notice the moon
or write a song...
or just be more appreciative of something.

Anything.

That makes me happy.

Because i believe these are the things
that give life meaning -
and there are too many of us out there
waiting until we retire to find meaning in our lives.

hugs to all of you...

hope you like the song

bigger is NOT better. So there.

hi everyone.

First of all, i hope all of you who live on the east coast of the US stay safe these next few days... hurricane Sandy looks like it's packing a mean punch.

Here's to hoping things get back to normal quickly for all of you.
In the meantime, stay safe and warm and inside.

a few little faces in my journal
and a wonderful Emerson quote.

and this little doodle... inspired by a Neil Young song i was listening to,
A man needs a maid. ;-)

I've always loved miniature things. Including paintings.
Bigger is not always better. ;-)

So this afternoon, i thought i'd do a mini painting,
and since i didn't have any small canvases on hand,
i did them on canvas paper.
3 x 3 inches.

aren't they cute?
They were a lot of fun to do.

You'll find them for sale in my ETSY shop soon.

I have a few more ideas, so i'll be doing more tonight.

I hate that I've had so little time to visit your blogs lately...
I love being inspired by all the wonderful work out there,
so i look forward to a bit more down time.
I trust you're all still following your own hearts.

I've been working on my illustrated book.

I heard an author say the other day that her book took her 7 years to write
and it made me feel hopeful and less of a procrastinator. ;-)

I also heard this wonderful quote, and it reminded me of how important it is
to continue on our chosen paths, regardless of who approves or not.

It reminded me of the importance of surrounding ourselves
with people who believe in our dreams...

Don't let anyone turn your sky into a ceiling.

Here's to always seeing sky.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.

miss fashion girl gets a boost

I don't design clothes, I design dreams.
Ralph Lauren

hello folks...

I felt like having fun last night with collage.
Don't panic yet - she kinda looks like Rocky here.

Snippets of different parts of the face from different photos.
The mouth is actually the mouth of a baby,
just cause i'm guessing some of these fashion queens
must pout now and then.

No doubt from lack of food... ;-)

A bit of color in the background to shape the face...

Yeah, i could have simply cut the paper,
but there's not much thinking going on at the early stages.

Color in the eyes... and yes, i thought she looked better
with a flower on her head rather than hair.

I'd make a fine fashion designer... ;-)

a few little extra doodles... and dots. ;-)

more detail...
notice the turtle neck sweater... it's wool. ;-)

she looks pretty sad, but most of them usually do...
(again, lack of food)

Give me a week with nothing but lemon juice and crackers,
and i'd be about ready to kill someone.

i need croissants and coffee
thank you very much...

I can't take much credit for something like this, since it's mostly collage.
But the purpose was to relax and have fun - and that i did.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
it's Friiiiiiday!!
