a calm, winter walk on the beach...

I need the sea because it teaches me.
Pablo Neruda

let's all go for a walk on the beach this morning, shall we?

My son woke up late, and i had to drive him to school
so i thought i'd take a walk at the beach after i dropped him off.

those who say they only like the beach in the summer
have obviously never been there in the winter...
such a vast beauty.

who doesn't love sand ripples...

and wide open spaces...

and close up sand ripples... ;-)

i had to lay down on the frozen sand for this shot...
you're welcome. ;-)
just in case i forget where i am...
(yes, that's a beer cap. And yes, it's the Canadian maple leaf...)
washrooms, canteens, souvenir boutiques...
all closed during the winter months, but still so pretty in the sun.
benches, just waiting for someone...
another worn out lighthouse...
still beautiful.

The worn out, falling apart things
hold more beauty for me
than the sparkly, shiny things.
and here's my little painting from last night...
a small 6" x 6" - different than what i normally do,
but it felt good to get out of my comfort zone.
not sure what inspired it...
i just felt very geometric last night, i guess... ;-)

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

  1. Love the painting, the turquoise-y blue with red and white is one of my favorite color combinations. Loved all your beach pictures too, I love the ocean.

  2. All gorgeous photos. I agree about the beach in winter. We live about 8 miles from the local seaside town, and in winter it's so good to walk along the almost deserted sea wall, or down the pier, even if it is rather blowy.
Your painting is different from anything of yours I've seen before, but I love it. The colours are so clean and clear (like a winter's day on the beach), and the various elements coalesce to make a perfect whole.

  3. Thank you for letting me tag along on this beautiful walk down the beach. Great photos!
    Happy first day of Spring.
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

  4. Beautiful place...cool clicks and a wonderful outline sketch; blue looks fab!

  6. I can't imagine not living a close drive to the ocean. Probably take it for granted, but love the beauty and energy of the beach!!

Your painting is spectacular.. a very appealing style, I could see it behind a couch with a modern decor!! Or in a powder room.... Love it!! Beautiful lines and color!!

  7. almost looks like a beautiful summer day!
Here, we are already setting fire to the logs every afternoon, autumn is here :)

  8. The painting is very marvolous! I love the geometric lines and shapes and thank you for taking me with you on such a beautiful walk ♥♥♥

  9. Gorgeous photos Pauline, I love the quiet in Winter, the no tourists around feel, deserted beaches...so beautiful!
Great painting too, something different, thanks for sharing with us! xx

  10. I like the way you see pattern and design around you and then use it in your artwork.

  12. We live quite a distance from the beach so I only get there once or twice a year. Your pictures were like a mini vacation for me. They reminded me so much of the beaches close to where I grew up. I really do miss them. Thank you for taking us along on your beautiful walk.

  13. what a fun walk!! love the ripples and the old lighthouse, the sense of the beach longing for visitors and standing up proudly for you, our walk, and this opportunity to go public!!!

someday I would love to take a real in-person walk on the beach with you. that's a dream worth dreaming, eh?!

  14. Love, love the lighthouse pic ...and your colors are great on the new painting!

  15. THANK YOU FOR THE DREAMY BEACH PHOTOS! Just catching up on your most recent 8 posts {!!} and could comment on them all but am reining it in. :) I want to make paintings of those beach pics. xx
