someone loves me and lhasa de sela

the little bit of painting that happened today...
acrylic on paper...
i was gonna call it
Someone loves me on a windy day.
:-)
...and a beautiful song by Lhasa de Sela,
who left this world far too soon.

Wishing you all a peaceful easy Sunday night.

Friday, March 9, 2012

hi everyone!

It's Friday - my favorite day of the week.

Some of you already know
I haven't had the most inspirational week.

Regardless of how much i love doing this
or how grateful i am for being part
of such a supportive, creative community,
I still have moments of doubt
where i question what i do
and why I bother doing it.

Sometimes I question
whether i blog too often, or not enough,
or whether i should just stop altogether.

But then, I'd miss you all too much.

Of course i could visit your blogs without having one myself
but that just wouldn't feel like sharing to me.

Have i failed to mention that i can be anal sometimes? ;-)

So for me, it boils down to this:

I make art because it makes me happy,
and because i love the connection it creates with others.

And in this life,
when you find something that makes you happy,
you do it as often as you can.

So here we go...
from my quick little pen sketch

to the fun part of the process... spreading paint!

purple and a blob of lime green...

shaping the hair...

more shapes and filling in with more color...

I don't know what was happening with my brushes -
I figure they're starting to crack up
from the long winter too...
:-)

The girl with the hearts in her hair.

closeup of the little white hearts and dots.

I love dots. Just in case you didn't already know that. :-)

The soul sisters - done.
With dots.
:-)

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
and check out all the other lovelies

Van Gogh

I went for a nice walk last night in the cold winter air
and as i looked at the beautiful moon
and the starlit sky,
i thought of this quote by Van Gogh...

I agree with Vincent.
The sight of stars makes me dream too.

You would think after so many years
of seeing the moon up there in the sky
i would have grown accustomed to it.

But I am still in awe.

As soon as i step out the door for my walk in the evenings,
I look up towards the moon & the stars
and it still reassures me
the same way it did
when i was 13 years old.

So here's what i painted last night,
after my cold winter walk,
in honour of Vincent Van Gogh,
and his deep appreciation for the skies...

And your smile for the day.
:-)

I think we can all relate to this one.

fire hair

I'm stuck in red these days. Very unusual for me. I'm usually a blues & greens kinda gal.
Maybe Santa is rubbing off on me? :-)

i did find a way to include the blues...

not quite done yet, but i wanted to share anyway.

I'm having a lovely time in my neck of the woods, preparing for Christmas. The only thing missing now is snow. I'm one of those people who looks forward to a good snowstorm. It's unusual for us not to have snow at this time of the year, so my fingers are crossed, at least for a bit. :-)

Wishing you all a wonderful Tuesday!

the sketchbook project

Last nights' entry in the sketchbook. By the way JanJan, when you pay the $25, they send you this little sketchbook in the mail. It has something like 20 pages...

I won't be posting all of my sketchbook entries, since i have a friend in New York who will hopefully be able to leaf through the actual sketchbook once it makes it there, and I want her to be surprised.

...and of course, my favorite pencil crayons. The sketch was done with these 3 colors only.
The paper isn't the greatest quality, and if you notice the girls' forehead & hair, you can actually see the circles from the painting I had done on the other side of the page! yikes. So much for do's & don'ts...

I kinda suck at following rules, so there you go... :-)
