mini ghost, abstract flowers and hope

hello folks.

I'm linking this to Illustration Friday...
word of the week: HAUNT

I used cardboard from the Halloween chip box.
Yay!! free cardboard!! ;-)

I had fun making this little guy...

i'm a big chicken when it comes to scary stuff,
so i'll stick with the fun ghosts, thank you very much.

And then a bit of acrylic painting on paper...

It always seems to come alive for me when i add the dots... ;-)

and the black and white...

this photo (above) was taken last night, in my room...

and this one was taken this morning,
by the window, with natural light...

What a difference, huh?
Colors are so much closer to the real thing.

For those of you who have sent such kind messages of concern
about my mother - thank you.

She is still in the hospital but in good spirits.
It's been an adjustment for everyone,
so we're taking things one day at a time.

Just like the alcoholics do.  ;-)

It's hard not to worry all the time,
but then i'd be digging my own grave
if i spent every waking hour obsessing about mom
and cancer
and illness
and death...

So rather than go against the tide of what is our current reality,
i remind myself that she is in good hands
and that she is exactly where she needs to be right now.

She is doing well, despite everything,
thanks to her remarkable outlook on life and death.
The first thing she said when i went in to her room the other day was:

"aren't the leaves in the trees beautiful?"

We could all learn something from such a grateful heart,
don't you think?

  1. It is true, the magical effect those dots have. You have inspired me to try as I don't use dots normally...lovely to recycle too.
    Great work!

  2. Now I am sending my good vibes (in some way through the universe) for your mother, I like your ghost, and I like to see the creative process of your work. good vibes! :)))

  3. Very inspiring abstract flowers - one of my favorite topics

  4. Love the colours you have chosen and the dots give it such a lift...I can see you are very talented:))

  5. Best wishes for your mom, Pauline. I so wish we could dispatch your booga-booga ghost to scare off her monster. BTW he's really cute, uh, I mean scary...your little ghost. Happy AEDM :)

  6. I am also a chicken about scary things.... Not at all attracted to it! My zombies last week were a stretch for me!! Your ghost is adorable and your painting is AH--MAZ-ING!!! Love it, the colors, lines and dots a perfect combination of beauty!! I'm glad you are taking some time for snippets of joy during this rough time!! Still praying for your moms comfort!! She does sound like a beautiful soul!! Take care!

    Hugs Giggles

  7. Fun art! Heart touching story. Best hopes for mom and her situation and you, as daughter to mom. Not an easy time. Glad you find time to make fun for yourself.

  8. Booga booga, haha! I love your not-so-scary monster!
Those dots on your colourful painting really finish it off, don't they. Beautiful colours. Especially in day light :)

  9. I really like your Booga Booga and your painting is very lovely. Best wishes for your mom.

  10. Okay, I adore your booga booga ghost! and your second piece is just stunning. Yep, the black and white just finish it. Glad you're hanging in there--your mom sounds like a wise and gentle soul. My best to you both xx

  11. Lovely painting, and I always appreciate the step by step pics, so interesting.
Thinking of your mum still - and I know how she feels about the flashes of beauty that surround us. Cancer heightens our appreciation of every lovely moment even more than before it visited us.
Your paintings are always full of hope, and always provide one of my flashes of beauty. Thank you. Jez XX.

  12. Your ghost is marvelous! Something tells me he makes a lot of noise because he's just not that frightening ;) I know how difficult it is not to obsess over your Mom, so I'm glad to see you strive to put some "normal" into your life. Big hugs and warm thoughts your way, Pauline. And, yah, prayers too. ♥

  13. beautiful post. I love the artwork from the cute little Halloween character to the gorgeous painting!

  14. ABSOLUTELY Pauline...!!
Life is a blessing, take each day as it comes.
Love your expressive writing, such a sweet & gentle reminder to us all... ~xx
Wishing your mother love & comfort, strength to you both, my friend. :]

p.s. I adore your mini ghost, such fun creating on cardboard, don't you think? The paint is beautiful too, love, love, love... your use of colors on this piece.

  15. Eeeek! Scary! ;)

Wishing you and your mum strength & healing.
